Management Team

EVPS' key executives have wide range of experience in developing and introducing new automotive product lines, electric/hybrid-electric drive systems and software as well as managing large truck fleets.

John R. Dabels, Co-founder, CEO

Mr. Dabels serves as chief executive officer.  Mr. Dabels is a 25+ year veteran of General Motors where his career included direct involvement with or managing introductions of a number of new products, including the GM EV1.  His career at GM ranged from GM Financial Staff in New York to Director Marketing Buick Division.  Following Buick, Mr. Dabels joined the GM EV1 program with direct responsibility for developing demand for electric vehicles worldwide.  In addition to managing the marketing, public relations, and government relations staffs, Mr. Dabels was the primary "public face" for the GM EV1 program.  Since GM EV1, Mr. Dabels has remained involved with electric or hybrid electric vehicle programs.  One assignment was CFO of EV Global Motors, a company founded by Lee Iacocca.  While EV Global Motors’ initial product was electric bicycles, the intent was to migrate to an electric-powered on-road vehicle.  Education: BS Drake University, SM Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan Fellow). 

Terence L. Russell, President and COO

Mr. Russell serves as president and chief operating officer of EVPS.  Mr. Russell started his professional career as a lawyer with the May Department Stores.  A former May lawyer recruited Mr. Russell to join Ryder System.  When joining, Ryder was the nation’s largest truck leasing and rental company, as well as one of the largest highway-transportation logistics providers.  During his 18-year career at Ryder, Mr. Russell’s positions included Corporate Secretary; Acting General Counsel; Sr. VP, Development; President, Insurance Management Services Division, President, Ryder Automotive Logistics Division, and President, Ryder International.  In the Automotive Logistics division, Mr. Russell had direct responsibility for the delivery of about 6,000,000 light trucks and cars from the automotive OEM’s (primarily General Motors, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Ford, and Nissan) from ports, railheads, and assembly plants to dealers throughout the United States and Canada.  In the International operation, Mr. Russell was responsible for all Ryder’s leased/rented trucks and maintenance in UK, Germany, Poland, Canada, and Mexico, and preparations for Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, and Venezuela. 

Subsequent to Ryder, Terry has remained in transportation, distribution, logistics businesses having, among other businesses, co-founded what is today the largest independent wholesale lubricant distributor in the US.  Education:  AB, JD Washington University (St. Louis, MO) (Order of the Coif, Articles Editor, Washington University Law Quarterly); Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 through 1971. 

James McGreen, Co-founder, Chairman, Chief Technology Officer (We're getting picture of Jim.)

Mr. McGreen is also founder and Chairman of LINA, an open-source software company (LINA Software).  Mr. McGreen is an inventor, entrepreneur, and investor.  His many companies include ZAP (zero air pollution) which he founded in 1991.  Mr. McGreen remained as President and CEO until September 1999.  At the time, the company had produced over 25,000 electric vehicles.  Mr. McGreen has remained active in alternative transportation and energy and is a board member of four corporations, including LINA.  Mr. McGreen is committed to providing practical transportation options to help improve environmental and social conditions.  Mr. McGreen attended San Jose State University.

Paul Wolfe, Chief Engineer

Mr. Wolfe serves as EVPS’ chief engineer.  Mr. Wolfe has extensive experience in design and manufacturing of component parts and vehicle systems ranging from 100% electric industrial vehicles, to the Corvette, to heavy-duty trucks, to military vehicles.  In addition to direct engineering and design responsibility, Mr. Wolfe's experience includes managing engineering groups as well as vehicle and component durability testing.  Mr. Wolfe is the holder of 13 patents.  Education:  BS Carnegie Mellon; graduate courses at NC State and MIT.    

Wayman J. Pearson, Government Sales and Refuse Product Development

Mr. Pearson's experience includes Key Executive, City of Charlotte, North Carolina, Solid Waste Services and similar position in Clearwater, Florida.  In both locations, Mr. Pearson's departments realized major productivity improvements and cost reductions resulting from implementing new technology and employee performance-based metrics.  Mr. Pearson continues to be involved with national trade organizations for solid waste, writing technical articles, serving on national advisory teams for solid waste, giving numerous speeches at conferences, and serving as president, Collection and Transfer Technology Division SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America).  Education: Florida A&M and Tampa College; executive programs at Eckerd College and Queens College (Charlotte).

Leighton M. Cubbage, Sales and Business Strategy, Member Board of Directors

Mr. Cubbage's experience includes a successful career in B2B sales of electronics as well as starting and later selling a highly successful telecom company.  He is also chairman and principal shareholder of Upstate Automotive Group, which is a key sales outlet and installation facility for EVPS in South Carolina.  Mr. Cubbage philanthropic interests center around educational institutions, primarily Greenville Technical College and Clemson University, of which he is a graduate (and bleeds orange).  Mr. Cubbage serves on the EVPS Board.    

L. Wayne Henegar, Senior Advisor

Mr. Henegar brings extensive knowledge of automotive component design and manufacturing worldwide, new product development (including electric vehicles) and implementing systems for measuring performance and improving efficiency.
